FOUNDER OF INSPIRING MINDS
]In 2005, founder and CEO Deryck Toles suffered a career-ending injury to his professional football dreams. While spending hours each day in therapy, Toles reflected on the good and bad moments in his life - the obstacles that challenged him, the circumstances that changed him, and most importantly, the people who showed him anything’s possible.
Inspired by his memories, Toles began meeting with several students once a month at McDonald’s in Warren, Ohio, to talk about their future. Once a month turned into once a week, and those students started bringing their siblings and their homework. Then one day, one of those students said they wanted to go to college but didn’t know how, and Inspiring Minds was born.
Today, Inspiring Minds offers free after-school and summer programming to more than 500 K-12 students annually in multiple cities around the country. Year-round programming focuses on five areas of IMpact: Education, College & Career Readiness, Exposure to New Experiences, Health & Wellness and Personal Development.
Inspiring Minds continues to evolve to meet the needs of the communities and students we serve, but our driving force will always remain the same: Anything’s possible.

TEAM REAM FOUNDATION
Samantha Ream Haas – Executive Director
Sam, originally from the suburbs of Chicago, graduated from Penn State University where she received her degree in Communication, Arts and Sciences and Business. A 3-time Big Ten Champion and All-American for Penn State Volleyball she was a resident of State College for 15 years. Sam has served as the Executive Director since Team Ream’s inception in 2014. She splits her time between Pennsylvania and Illinois and enjoys spending time with her family. The TEAM REAM FOUNDATION is a not–for–profit organization established to preserve the memory, to grow the legacy, and to carry on the fight, the will and determination of Brandon Ream for future generations. Brandon Ream played football at Penn State, and his life was cut short after a battle with cancer. The mission of the Team Ream Foundation is to assist the everyday lives of financially disadvantaged individuals in State College and surrounding areas who have been affected by cancer and serious medical conditions.
Kelsey Ream Napolitan was born and raised in State College, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Penn State University in 2010 with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management and was a three-time NCAA National Champion as a member of the Penn State Women’s Volleyball team.
Kelsey has been actively involved with Team Ream since its formation in 2014. The Team Ream Foundation is a nonprofit organization established to preserve the memory, grow the legacy, and carry on the fight, will, and determination of her brother, Brandon Ream, a former Penn State football player, for future generations.
The mission of the Team Ream Foundation is to support the everyday lives of financially disadvantaged individuals and families in State College and the surrounding communities who have been affected by cancer and other serious medical conditions.
Through her involvement with Team Ream, Kelsey is committed to honoring Brandon’s legacy by helping others and making a lasting difference in the lives of individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.
DYLAN LUGRIS
Dylan Lugris, a former Penn State ice hockey player and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, is the founder of the Penn State Sled Hockey Classic. He started the classic as a student at Penn State when he learned of the need for funds for adaptive hockey. The event and the program have continued to thrive and grow. It is a philanthropy event that has raised significant funds for the State College Coyotes, an adaptive athlete ice hockey team in State College. As a junior at Penn State in 2024, Dylan received the Hockey Humanitarian Award recipient — a prestigious award that calls “attention to individuals who embody all that is, and can be, right with the sport.” Eighteen individuals were nominated for the award, with a select committee narrowing that list down to five.
Dylan continues to be involved with the project he helped found.

DR. MICHAEL McSHANE
THE LION MOBILE HEALTH CLINIC
Michael graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 2009 with a BS in Pre-Medicine. In 2012, he earned a Master’s in Education (EdM) from Harvard University, going on to earn his MD from the Penn State College of Medicine in 2014. Following his internal medicine residency and tenure as Chief Medical Resident at Cambridge Health Alliance and Harvard Medical School, Michael returned to Penn State, where he serves as an Associate Professor of Medicine.
Embodying Penn State’s land-grant mission to foster student success and Commonwealth-wide impact, Michael spearheaded the creation and launch of the LION Mobile Clinic—a student-driven, physician-supervised mobile health unit. Operating on an innovative "tailgate medicine" delivery model, the clinic travels directly into rural communities across Pennsylvania. His team brings together students from across Penn State's diverse academic disciplines—ranging from medicine and nursing to public health, business, and agricultural sciences—to deliver free preventive health screenings, resources and education to residents facing geographic, financial, and structural barriers to care. The clinic also creates a collaborative platform for Penn State to leverage its multidisciplinary resources for residents challenged with food insecurity, financial instability, and other health-impacted concerns.
Under Michael’s leadership, the LION Mobile Clinic has conducted hundreds of community outreach events across 15 Pennsylvania counties, delivering thousands of free health services to under-resourced populations. Through his vision, Michael has created a transformative dual impact: delivering vital healthcare directly to rural communities while fostering interdisciplinary student success and hands-on mentorship to prepare the next generation of Penn State leaders across multiple fields of study.
